The machine

A heat pump designed to get hotter than any on the market today.

Normal heat pumps stop around 150°C. Airthium's machine is designed to reach 550°C. That's hot enough for food, chemicals, and most of industry. It runs on electricity when power is cheap, and lets the factory's gas boiler take over when it's not.

Normal heat pumps stop around 150°C. Airthium is designed to go much hotter, in the range where factories actually need heat.

Helium, not refrigerants

The machine runs on helium. It's safe, doesn't burn, and doesn't warm the planet. No chemical refrigerants, no regulatory headaches.

Hybrid by design, cheap to run

Software recalculates the cheapest energy source every 15 minutes. Electricity when it's cheap, gas when it's not. The factory never stops.

A 2 kW test prototype running in the 150–200°C range is being brought online at our lab near Paris. The 550°C figure is the design target, not what the current prototype delivers. Next steps are 10 kW and 100 kW machines, then a paid industrial pilot. First commercial units are targeted for 2029.

Is Airthium only a European company? +
No. Airthium, Inc. is a US company. The machine is developed in France, and the plan is to sell in both Europe and the United States, where the Department of Energy has named industrial heat decarbonization a national priority. Cofounder Franck Lahaye runs strategy and operations from Austin, Texas.
What are the risks? +
Big ones. This is an early-stage hardware company with no product revenue yet: the technology has to scale, more funding will be needed, competitors are well funded, timelines are long, and you can't easily sell your stake.
